An Introduction to the Practice, Method & Materials of Islamic Calligraphy

When: 18th April 2016 – 22nd April 2016
Time: 10:30 am – 4:30 pm
Where: The Prince's School of Traditional Arts, 19-22 Charlotte Road, London

In this course you will be introduced to the practice, methods and materials used by calligraphers in the Islamic calligraphy tradition. Participants will learn how to prepare their own reed pen and sized paper. They will practice writing the Arabic alphabet and explore the proportional systems that underlie the letters. The course concludes with each participant making a final piece using gold leaf.

In addition to the major loan exhibition in Aylesbury, Bucks County
Museum is proud to announce the Art of Islam Festival running
at a town near you from 26 March until 24 September 2016. There
will be over 100 exciting events taking place across the county in
collaboration with local mosques, libraries and arts venues.

 

Calligraphy workshops will take place on 1st May Chesham, 28th May Aylesbury, 23rd July at the A4E1 centre in High Wycombe.

Matieres Et Motifs

With all the darkness brought by terror to Paris recently, it is timely that a show displaying a collaboration with French furniture maker Nicolas Aubergnac opens on 2nd December at Galerie Chevalier, Paris. Entitled ‘Materials and Motifs’, the show will display the ‘Nur’ or Light lamps. Made out of rare and precious woods, light shines through the square Kufic text and unique wood grain patterns creating imaginary landscapes. The show ends 29 January 2016.
