The word iqra, meaning 'read' in Arabic, forms part of the very first verses revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when he was instructed by God to read. It is seen as a Divine command addressing humanity and is a universal injunction to learn.
Iqra forms the central motif in this privacy screen for the University's prayer room in stylised Thuluth script set amongst a 6-fold geometric design. It is a collaboration with US artist Jennifer Jackson.
