Eternally Present
Eternally Present is a unique sculpture and short film that is part of Soraya’s Sound & Silence body of work. In Eternally Present, she draws an unprecedented connection between the human body in contortion and calligraphic shapes. Since the 10th century, Arabic letters have been linked to the human form through The Proportioned Script by Ibn Muqlah, a geometric system rooted in human anatomy. Soraya's work explores the materiality and the relationship between her materials and the earth. The black ink used in Eternally Present is made from carbon captured from mopeds in India, symbolising the cycle of life and death. Her sculptures are crafted from white Carrara marble dust, the same source as her white ink.
